1、 Working principle of ball mill

During the operation of dry-type ball mill, the material is evenly fed into the first bin of the mill by the feeding device through the feeding hollow shaft. There are stepped or corrugated lining plates in the bin, and steel balls of different specifications are equipped. The centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the ball mill cylinder will bring the steel ball to a certain height and then fall down, thus the material will be broken and ground.

After rough grinding in the first bin, the material enters the second bin through the single-layer partition plate. The bin is equipped with flat lining plate and steel balls of different specifications to further grind the material. The qualified materials are discharged through the discharge grate plate to complete the grinding operation.

The working principle of wet ball mill is similar to that of dry ball mill, but there are some differences. Wet ball mill needs to add appropriate amount of water or absolute ethanol in the grinding process, which means that there are certain requirements for grinding concentration. The amount of water is determined by the nature of the material. The qualified materials are discharged out of the cylinder through discharge part, and the unqualified materials are returned to the wet ball mill for regrinding.

2、 Structure of ball mill

Dry ball mill and wet ball mill both include feed section, discharge part, rotary part, transmission part (reducer, pinion, motor, electric control) and other main parts.

But the difference is that the structure of dry-type ball mill is more complex than that of wet ball mill. The outlet of dry-type ball mill is in straight tube shape, and it is equipped with induced draft device, dust discharge pipe and dust collector. The structure of the wet ball mill is relatively simple, and there is no need to add too many auxiliary accessories. The discharge port is in the shape of a trumpet, and the built-in screw device is more convenient for ore discharge.

Application scope of ball mill

Dry ball mill is suitable for all kinds of metal ore and non-metallic ore, including materials that will react with water, such as cement, marble and other building stones, or products requiring storage and sale in the form of powder.

Generally, mineral processing area is located in arid area, so dry ball mill can be selected to save water resources.

Wet ball mill is widely used. In addition to all kinds of metal ores and non-metallic ores, wet ball mills can be used as long as the quality of final products will not be affected if the materials meet with water.

The wet ball mill has better performance, higher grinding efficiency and lower requirement on ore moisture content. In addition, it has less auxiliary equipment and simple material transportation device, so the investment is about 5% - 10% lower than that of dry ball mill.

Considering the economic effect of grinding operation, most concentrators will use wet ball mill because of its strong adaptability to materials, continuous production and large crushing ratio.
